Research is focused to the deposition of nanostructred silver thin films by means of pulsed laser ablation in buffer gas (He,Ar). The aim is to optimize the structural properties of the films for their use as substrates in Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) measurements. Nanoparticles grow as a consequence of clustering processes during the plume expansion induced by the presence of the buffer gas. Typical nanoparticles dimension critically depends on nature and pressure of the buffer gas while surface morphology can be controlled by the laser shots number.
